A Garden is a grand teacher. It teaches patience and careful watchfulness; it teaches industry and thrift; above all it teaches entire trust.”
-Gertrude Jekyll

The Garden of Dreams is a prime charm of attraction, located at Thamel, Kathmandu, opposite of SAARC Building. The neo classical historical garden was created by late field Marshal Kaiser Shumsher Rana (1892 – 1964). It was taken one of the most sophisticated private gardens of early 1920s, beautifully designed in Edwardian style. Kaiser Shumsher had furnished the wall of garden with exquisite ensemble of pavilions, fountains, decorative garden furnitures and European inspired features such as verandas, pergolas, balustrades, urns and birdhouses. He erected six impressive pavilions, each dedicated to one of the six seasons of Nepal. The garden is enriched with flowers, shrubs and trees.

The garden is now 7,042 square meter including three pavilions, amphitheatre, central ponds, pergolas, urns and combination of small gardens. After the demise of Kaiser Shumsher, it was handed over to the Nepalese Government but was not well managed for the decades. The Garden of Dreams has been one of the most eye-catching tourist landmark as well as natural library where one can enjoy the natural beauty with the historical and architectural flavor. Garden of Dreams welcomes private and corporate functions, receptions, cultural programs and classical concerts too. It opens daily at 9 am to 10 pm.
