Pharping and Taudaha are the good habitat for the birds. It’s because of long stretched hill with forest and sparse population in Pharping and the beautiful lake; around hills near to the Bagmati River is the birds’ playground.
Pharping is 19 km far from Kathmandu city. It is 1600 m. high from the sea level. Dakshinkali, the famous temple of Goddess is few kilometers down in the confluence of two streams Purnawati Ganga and Uddharwati Ganga. On the way up to the Ganga, there is a forest where many different species of birds are found chirping on the tree branches. The other place where the birds are found a lot is in Pharping valley and the way to the hill.
Taudaha is on the way to Pharping and is not allowed swimming and fishing in the lake. It is considered on the sacred lake in the sense that while draining all the waters out from Kathmandu valley the snake king, Karkotak was given a shelter over there. It’s because of less human obstruction, birds are found enjoying in Taudaha especially in the morning and the evening. Taudaha is an ideal place to see wild ducks and the water birds. Mostly we find Rudy Shelduck and common coot. It is the home for 40 different species of birds that are found in the wetlands.
